WB committed $1.7bn in FY09 for Pakistan
The World Bank committed $1.7 billion in fiscal year 2009 (FY09) to help Pakistan cope amid the global economic crisis, the institution’s highest ever year-on-year support to the country. This represents an increase of $1,064 billion over FY08.

LPG price increased to Rs 70/kg
Cotton production is expected to increase by 3 percent to 16 million tonnes in 2009-10. Production is expected to increase in the three largest cotton-producing countries after China, India, the United States and Pakistan.

Ending subsidy on power: Tarin says IMF to be urged to extend deadline
Pakistan will seek six-month waiver, from International Monetary Fund (IMF), for ending subsidy on electricity from June 30, said Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin. Talking to media here on Friday after the Conference on Privatisation with Public Private Partnership, he said that formal request for additional $4 billion 'Flexible Credit Line' (FCL) facility was sent to IMF, which would be approved by its board in the next session.

40 percent cut in port tariffs recommended
The Task Force on Maritime Industry (TFMI), constituted by federal government, has recommended to the Ministry of Ports and Shipping reduction in the wet charges at Karachi Port by around $10,200, or 40.47 percent, and $9,400, or 38.52 percent, at Port Qasim.

Pakistan's economy looking for lubricants
Pakistan's economy is in desperate search for a lubricant, as the latest data reveals that credit to private sector nearly zeroed in the first eleven months of fiscal year 2008-09 (it is actually in negative territory as per weekly data released by SBP), as the government borrowing crowded out private sector credit off-take in an attempt to straighten its books with the central bank.
